Black Girls Create is a unique intersectional hub for Black creators and critical fandom. Through substantive but easily accessible content, we encourage fans to celebrate and critique pop culture while also advocating for and contributing to the increased media representation of Black women specifically, and people of color in general.

Karama Horne (a.ka. - “theblerdgurl”) is a freelance culture journalist and content creator parked at the intersection of geekdom and diversity. Founder of theblerdgurl.com theblerdgurl brand is recognized throughout genre entertainment as an authority on geekdom, inclusion and the large often ignored sub-fandom of Black nerds or #blerds. Karama currently has bylines at SYFYWIRE, Rotten Tomatoes and ComicsBeat and also hosts theblerdgurl podcast and her very own weekly live show theblerdgurlLIVE on the OSNYC Twitch channel. In addition, Karama has been featured as a live host on red carpets and convention panels across the country. Including San Diego Comic-Con, South by Southwest and New York Comic-Con.

Bey the Brand

A conversation about personal branding with Black women who have done it. We'll discuss ways creators can establish a presence online — websites, social media, and portfolios — and how they can use social media to build reputation and create connections. Panelists will share their experiences and lessons they learned in building their own brands. We'll also talk about free and low-cost tools for building blogs, creating graphics, and managing your social profiles.
